✨ How It All Began
Back in 2017, I wanted to make my then‑partner a Valentine’s scratch‑off card - something simple, sweet, and personal, just to say I love you. So I set about making one… and accidentally made a whole bunch of them.
I started selling those scratch cards, and in true romantic fashion, ended up giving him a shop‑bought Valentine’s card instead. (Yes, really. The irony still makes us laugh.)
It wasn’t until 2020 that he finally received his official SquidgeMakes scratch card — three years late, but lovingly handmade. And that’s how this whole adventure began.
💛 Why “SquidgeMakes”?
The name comes from my now‑husband, who has lovingly called me Squidge for years. I adore making things. He adores calling me Squidge. Put them together and… SquidgeMakes was born.
It felt right - family‑rooted, fun, personal, and a little bit cheeky. And now you get to call me by my nickname too. Cute, right.
🎨 From Graphic Designer to Card Maker
I’m a graphic designer by trade, trained at UCA Epsom (University for the Creative Arts). I never imagined I’d end up running my own business, let alone creating personalised greeting cards, scratch‑off surprises, and keepsakes for people all over the world.
I spent time working in web design, which I loved — but being glued to a computer 24/7 wasn’t quite my dream. SquidgeMakes lets me draw, experiment, and create freely… even if it’s digital, it feels wonderfully hands‑on.
👨👩👧👦 A Tiny Business With a Big Heart
SquidgeMakes is a very small business — just me, my two little ones, and a husband who’s been stuck with me for over 20 years. He jumps in when things get super busy, offers a shoulder when things get tough, and doubles as the accountant… which comes in handy more often than you’d think.
And here’s something really important to me: Shopping small and local genuinely changes lives. Your orders allow me to balance motherhood and creativity — to be present with my kids, to avoid sending them to nursery or school for every hour available, and to build a business that fits around family rather than the other way around.
So from the bottom of my heart… thank you. Every purchase supports our little family and keeps this magical, quirky business growing.
